I need to change the “Lemon Law” in my state and probaly?
lagies mommy asked:
many more states. The original “Lemon Law” was started to protect used car buyers from getting junk cars, but several states have changed them for new cars( which does not make a whole lot of sense). How do I change this? My son has gotten 2 junk cars and paid 500.00 for both, both times these cars were said to be in good condition.HELP

Actually, you’re wrong. The original “Lemon laws” were passed to protect buyers of NEW cars with major defects. Only a few States have expanded the laws to cover used cars, and then only under very restricted situations.
If you buy a car for $500 you’re almost always going to get a junker. Either be a good enough mechanic to fix the problems that are bound to arise, or refuse to buy it unless the seller gives you a WRITTEN warranty. “It’s in good condition” is meaningless puffery. If the car was in good condition, he wouldn’t be selling it for $500.

Actually, your premise is wrong. Lemon laws were never designed for used cars. They were designed to provide a remedy when the regular warranty is insufficient for a new car that just keeps crapping out. Used car laws merely requre that a dealer, (not a private party) clearly display if there is a warranty of if it is sold as is. When one pays 500 for a used car, one should expect junk. No court and no legislature would ever apply an implied warranty on a $500 car.
